Yvon and I went to Atlanta in June 2000. Perhaps the timing of the visit was one of our mistakes, because it was really humid. Whatever the reason, of all the cities I have ever been to, Atlanta strikes me as the most pointless place I have ever seen. One of its problems is that the centre of the city borders no body of water: no river, no river, no lake, not the ocean, it was just where the railway terminated. Sort of random. And a randomness perveates the city, tall buildings scattered around with no relation to each other, there seemed a huge lack of connection between its parts. I quipped to Yvon that "there's a city here somewhere, but damned if I can find it". There seemed very little to do in the city, we actually went to an attraction called the World of Coca Cola. Perhaps there are nice, good things about Atlanta, but I won't be back to find them. |
