Barrie Map

Barrie is about an hour north of Toronto, and is the last stop on the GO Train. Kempenfelt Bay, part of Lake Simcoe, juts out into the middle of the city like a finger in a pie. Yvon and I have visited Barrie twice together, once for a festival called Kempenfest, and once to wander the central city and visit the lovely MacLaren Art Centre. Other photos are from the area, from a number of different trips.

  • Barrie Morning (11 photos) - This gallery resulted from an early morning stop on Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie when I was driving to Huntsville for work in 2009. The photos show the sun rising over the lake, and a few shots of the city viewed from a distance on the shore.

  • Kempenfest (27 photos) - Yvon and I went up to Barrie in the summer of 2013 to go to a festival on the shore of the lake, called Kempenfest. This gallery mostly shows the various booths and whatnot of the festival, but there are some aerial views of the city from a small ferris wheel.

  • Central Barrie in 2016 (63 photos) - These photos start at the City Hall, and continue to the MacLaren Art Centre, a lovely building that occupies a former library. There are quite a few pictures of Dunlop Street, Barrie's major commercial street, then the water, including the well known sculpture the Spirit Catcher.  Finally, downtown is completed by doubling back to the library and a few other buildings in the core. There are two photos of a building at Georgian College that I got on our way out of town.

Near Barrie and Utopia

  • Near Barrie (43 photos) - Here's a potpourri of various shots of places not too far from Barrie. It include Huntsville, Midland, Orillia (though mostly an abandoned motel), Penetanguishene, and of course the famous shoe tree of of Crossland Road.

  • Utopia (34 photos) - Because everybody knows that Barrie is quite close to Utopia.
