	Prince Edward Island Map

    Charlottetown is a compact, tidy
provincial capital with a lot of charm. The central city is dominated by a
square containing Province House and the modern Confederation Centre
(performing arts, library, art gallery). Along Grafton and Queen there is
commercial activity and the City Hall, to the south-east of the square is a
cluster of churches and the Basilica. Lovely houses with names of the
original owner affixed to the front line the central streets.

I first went to Charlottetown in 1982
while hitchhiking through the Maritimes. I went to the island twice on that
visit, once by happenstance when I was picked up by two guys who were
heading to the island, and I went along for the ride, and later for a more
prolonged stay. I remember walking in the middle of the night watching
northern lights dancing above, I was hoping to get to a fishing jetty and
spend the day on a boat, but that didn't work out. When I returned in 1998
with Mary, we spent a week together exploring the island and lounging on
beaches that we had to ourselves. My next visit was quick and mostly rainy
in 2005 with Yvon, and finally, in 2015, Yvon and I went for a day expressly
to take a lot of photos of Charlottetown.

		Charlottetown in 2024 (62 photos)
		- Yvon and I joined our friends Mary & Steve on the
island while they were there for their summer stay, and had a great
visit. We dropped by the charming town of
Victoria on our way to their cottage, then spent part of the day in the
city, especially going to the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. A walk
along the beach at Keppoch rounded out the evening.

		PEI with Yvette
and Yvon in 2018 (58 photos)
		- The three of us took a day trip to PEI (but not Charlottetown) that
brought us to the Canadian Potato Museum, the Acadian Museum, and the
famous Bottle Houses in Cape Egmont.

		Charlottetown in 2015 (140 photos)
		- Yvon and I had an overnight visit in Charlottetown on a sunny
September day. This gallery starts at the Confederation Centre of the
Arts, a lot of photos of this, from a daytime visit and then at night
when we went to see Evangeline. The gallery continues with
Province House, then shots of the commercial centre of Charlottetown,
especially along Queen Street. Some photos of St. Dunstan's Cathedral
and other churches nearby, and then the waterfront (where we largely
missed the tourist sites). We went to Fanningbank and to Victoria Park, and at the end there are photos of our
visit to the Fort Amherst - Port-la-Joye historic site the next day, across the river from Charlottetown.

PEI with Yvon in 2005 (23 photos)
		- Yvon and I went to visit his friend Georges in September 2005. This
starts with the Confederation Bridge, has a couple of photos of the
Confederation Centre and Province House taken just after we arrived, in
fine weather. It poured rain during the remainder of visit, which did
not stop us from going to the market, seeing Mary's cottage at Ledwell
Lane, and going to Point Prim and Rustico.

PEI with Mary in 1998 (6 photos) -
I went with Mary to PEI in 1998, and though I have lovely memories of
the visit, where we stayed at her cottage and explore the island, I took only six photos, all with a
		disposable panoramic camera.

		PEI in 1982 (1 photo) -
Though I spent quite a bit of time on PEI (on two separate visits)
during my 1982 hitchhiking trip through the Maritimes, only one photo
seems to have resulted. This shows myself standing outside a motel with
two guys who gave me a lift while hitchhiking, David was a Priest and we
		spent some time together.
