    Cleveland
	Map

Cleveland was a micro trip that I took
towards the end of June 2019, arriving in the city in the afternoon on a
Saturday and returning late in the day on Sunday. I had lovely weather and
criss crossed the city multiple times in my quest to visit its nicer
districts. Of course I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but I felt a
little bit of a disadvantage there among the crowds for whom the visit was
clearly very important. Cleveland, like many secondary US cities, impressed
me with its early ambition and big dreams.

	  Central Cleveland (150 photos) -
This gallery starts at the small bit of the central waterfront that is
accessible to the public, and continues into the nearby Rock & Roll Hall
of Fame. After that, it wanders up into the central city with its tall
buildings, arriving at the lovely Public Square, with the Soldiers and
Sailors Monument and the impressive Tower City complex. After that, it
continues into some of the lovely commercial buildings along Euclid,
including three Victorian arcades, and a beautiful grocery store. It
continues to Playhouse Square, and at the end of the gallery there is a
bit of a random assortment of photos that didn't fit anywhere else.

      East
	  Cleveland (145 photos) -
The east end of Cleveland houses Case Western Reserve University, and
there is an area around the campus, at quite a remove from downtown, that
house the Museum of Art and other cultural institutions. This gallery is
mostly around that area. It begins with some views of buildings on campus,
and then moves through a visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art. The area
around the museum has a formal fountain and the Wade Lagoon, and is
surrounded by handsome buildings. It includes visits to the Cleveland
Botanical Garden and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The gallery closes
with a bunch of different elements scattered across the east side: the
Lake View Cemetery, Roosvelt Park, some abandoned buildings along Euclid,
	  and an abandoned factory.

      West
	  Cleveland (68 photos) -
This gallery starts just slightly west of the downtown area, in the Flats.
This is former industrial area dispersed among many oxbow turns on the
Cuyahoga River. I have never seen so many railway lift bridges in one
place. I was there in the morning, before there were crowds, and I
appreciated that some areas were improved with patios and the like, but
other areas remained industrial or abandoned. After the flats, the gallery
moves over the lovely Hope Memorial Bridge and veers to the West Side
Market, which is housed in a really beautiful space. It also includes a
few other sights in the west end, including dining out at a place called
	  "Plum".

Cleveland from the Air (4 photos)
		- As the plane was taking off for my return flight, I realized the seats
on the opposite side of the plane would have a stunning view of the city.
I hopped across the aisle into a empty row and started clicking away,
which yielded some nice shots of the central city.

		Cleveland in 1996 (2 photos)
		- I visited Cleveland briefly with Rick on an "around Lake Erie" drive
in 1996, which yielded two photos.
