What is it about Frankfurt that we have such bad luck getting in and out of the city? Though Yvon and I have traveled standby many places, it is Frankfurt where twice we have been stuck almost without hope of finding shelter for the evening. In 1999 we arrived there at the tail end of our trip to Europe, to find a huge auto show on and us without a hotel room. A British guy overheard our plight at 10 pm, took pity on us, and found us a hotel room in a little place that he knew of, taking us there himself on the subway. In 2006, we again spent time in Frankfurt because we couldn't get out, this time on our way back from Istanbul.
Given that we stayed a few days in 1999 and walked around the city extensively, I'm surprised to see that I only took seven photos. In fact, I took more in about 40 minutes in 2006! Just goes to show what digital cameras do. So here is a shockingly small number of photos of this town.

Frankfurt in 1999 (7 photos) - Though we spent a few days wandering around Frankfurt, I managed to take only seven photos. I don't recall Frankfurt being that uninteresting, but it's a shockingly small number of photos, even for pre-digital days.

Quick Frankfurt in 2006 (14 photos) - On our way back from Istanbul in 2006, we missed our flight in Frankfurt and ended up paying an enormous amount to stay in a really shitty hotel overnight, before flying back the next day. Nonetheless, we did catch some late-day light so I immediately went out and snapped a few photos of the central city before the evening descended.
