Fredericton Map

Yvon and I dropped by Fredericton on a day trip in September 2016 while down east. I had been to Fredericton during a trip in 1982 when I hitchhiked around the Maritimes, but I had never been back to the city since and had little memory of it. It's a tidy city with a lot of fine old houses and many historical buildings, especially along Queen Street. The newspaper had an article about how quickly Fredericton was growing, noting that by 2041 it will likely surpass Saint John in size. There was new residential construction downtown, and the overall impression was of a kind of solid prosperity.

  • All Fredericton (116 photos) - This gallery has pretty much everything from our 2016 visit, starting on the east side of the central city with some of the big houses on Waterloo Row, and the nearby walking bridge, and continuing on through the downtown area to the Legislature, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, and the collection of historic buildings along Queen Street. We doubled back, visiting a number of churches and the Old Burial Ground. We also dropped by the University, Odell Park, and ended at the Old Government House.

  • Around Fredericton (12 photos) - A few photos only from around the area. Three of these were on the way into the city in the morning, and the remainder are on the way home. I've long had this urge to see the small village of Jemseg, just because I like the name very much and wish I had made it up.

  • Hitching to Fredericton in 1982 (1 photo) - Here is a single photo of me, somewhere south of Fredericton in 1982, holding up a piece of cardboard with my destination written on it. I seem to have taken no photos of the city during this visit.
