I managed a quick outing to Hartford
in October 2019, the weekend after we had returned from a month in New
Brunswick. I guess I didn't expect too much from the city, but I had a jolly
visit in fine Saturday weather, and appreciated many of the historic
buildings downtown and the art at the Wadsworth Atheneum. The downtown did
strike me as a little under-utilized, and like so many American cities, it
is savagely cut off from the nearby Connecticut River by expressways, but it
treated me well nonetheless on this little visit.

Central Hartford (150 photos) - This gallery starts at the
Connecticut State Capitol building, which is in the lovely Bushnell Park.
It continues to Union Station and area, including my night out at
Black-Eyed Sally's, then down Church Street to Main where most of the
action in the city is located. A small cluster of tall buildings around
Main and Asylum streets, then over to the edge of the Connecticut River
along the Riverwalk. Heading back to the Main Street area, it covers the
Ancient Burying Ground, and then the Wadsworth Atheneum and City Hall and
	  buildings on  south Main.

      Other
Hartford (78 photos) - This is basically everything that is
east, south, west and north of the central city. It starts in the east,
where I crossed the Connecticut River to take some photos from the Great
River Park. The southern photos start at the Charter Oak Landing Park,
which was close to my hotel, and which I visited in the morning as
clouds were rolling in over the city. Many of the photos from the south
are of and around the old Colt factory (guns and warfare) with its
iconic blue dome. It also includes some photos of Wethersfield Avenue
houses and Colt Park. The western photos begin at the Asylum Avenue
Historic District, which wasn't frankly that historic but which featured
the splendid Cathedral of Saint Joseph, one of the highlights of this
visit. It moves further west to Mark Twain House and some buildings at
the University of Connecticut. There are only two northern photos, one
at the airport and one of a derelict building on my way out of town.
