Montevideo and Uruguay Map
Yvon and I drove around Uruguay for
several days as an offshoot from our trip to Buenos Aires in 2003. It
was interesting driving the breadth of this small country, wedged in between
two relative giants. Montevideo itself was a city that seemed to have had
better times in the past, yet was trying to pick itself up.

Montevideo (55 photos) -
When we arrived in Montevideo, I had hurt my ankle just before, and so we
saw less of the city than we'd hoped for, as I had to hobble around
painfully. The first photo shows our room service in the hotel, which I
was quite excited about because I'd never had room service before.
Montevideo struck me as a fairly unfortunate city, certainly less
prosperous than nearby Buenos Aires, yet still charming in its own way.

Uruguay outside Montevideo (95 photos)
- Yvon and I landed at the charming historical town of Colonia del
Sacramento, after taking the ferry from Buenos Aires. We left town, and
drove north as far as we could, resting for the evening at Mercedes. The
next day we drove across central Uruguay to the Atlantic, eventually
arriving at the resort town of Punta del Este, where we stayed. There we
visited Casapueblo, a remarkable hillside residence of a well known
artist, Carlos Paez Villaro. We drove to Montevideo after that. These
photos also capture our return to Colonia, on the way back to Argentina.
