    Omaha Map

I had a four day weekend in March 2019
and as it turned out, both Des Moines and Omaha were mostly sunny. I called
this my "double dip", two smaller cities in a single weekend. Flew to Omaha,
spent time first in Des Moines, then back to Omaha for a
night out and then a full day. On Monday, before
my flight in the later afternoon, I had time for a bit of a drive around
Nebraska, and visited Wahoo and the state capital at Lincoln. As much as I
tried to enjoy Omaha, I found that it was a city that was hard to like, cut
off from the Missouri River and lacking distinction. The art gallery and
former train station were highlights, though, both beautiful art deco
	buildings.

      Central
	  Omaha (105 photos) -
This gallery starts from close to the Missouri River,
on an early morning walk. Most of the river's
edge is inaccessable, but you can walk in the Heartland of America Park
and the Conagra Campus close by. It also includes plenty of views
of the downtown, including views of the Gene Leahy Mall. After modern and
historical buildings downtown, it veers to the CHI Health Centre, and then
covers the Old Market area. It ends on the south edge of downtown, on
Leavenworth Street including the Omaha Mining Company.

      Outer
	  Areas in Omaha (87 photos)
		-  Though these attractions are not that far out from downtown, it
makes sense for them to be included in one gallery. It starts at Kenefick
Park and the nearby Lauritzen Gardens, with its huge greenhouse, and
continues with the Prospect Hill Cemetery. The gallery ends with two Art
Deco wonders: the Joslyn Art Museum and the former Union Station, now the
Durham Museum. Also a few from a restaurant at which I ate.

        Nebraska Drive (53 photos)
		- Monday I had a flight at 4:00 pm, and they had
called for cloud. I opted to drive around the
Nebraska countryside, and was pleased with mostly sunny weather. The
state was deeply flooded in March, and I consulted flood maps online to
know where to avoid. I found the landscape of eastern Nebraska to be
fairly flat, but I enjoyed my visits to Wahoo and to Lincoln, the
		capital of Nebraska.

        Airport
and Plane Photos (12 photos) - This
gallery includes one shot of the charmingly
named Epply Airfield, and some photos from the plane trip of Iowa
countryside and floods along the river.
