Peterborough Map
I am not
completely sure when I first visited Peterborough, but it was likely in 2000
when I went to the city for a conference and to receive an award. At any
rate, I wasn't there for long, but in 2003 I spent three days in Peterborough
while working for Publications Ontario, and I
went back to the city
for work a number of times, and also a few times to visit. I seem to recall that Peterboroughians were once considered the most
"average" people in Canada, the one pollsters would use as a standin for the
rest of the country. On our visit in 2015, however, it seemed sketchier even
than many of the other cities we spent time in during the summer.

the lift locks to see them in operation.

Abandoned motel and gas station near Kaladar (17 photos) -
Rather unrelated to Peterborough, these
photos are from a separate driving trip to Ottawa. On our return, we
stopped at two abandoned businesses near Kaladar on Highway 7: a motel and
a gas station. The motel proved surprisingly interesting, since it
appeared to have been abandoned quickly and the rooms still had beds with
sheets on them, TVs, and other furniture, even down to little covers for
the toilet seats. And though the place is completely exposed, there was
relatively little damage done to the rooms.
