South Africa Map for Johannesburg and Pretoria

Pretoria is the very pretty capital of
South Africa. Actually, one of the capitals - South Africa has an
Administrative or Executive Capital (Pretoria), a Legislative Capital (Cape
Town), and a Judicial Capital (Bloemfontein). However, Pretoria is the main
capital. There has been some movement to renaming the city Tshwane, but this
seems not to have been completed, so for the moment, the city remains known
    as Pretoria.

    I've divided
up the non-urban photos in the north of South Africa. approximately equally between
    Johannesburg and Pretoria. Included
here is our drive out of Pretoria northwards, photos of the Drakensberg
range. I've also included photos of a bar inside a living tree!

Many thanks to Jim for scanning all
these photos and sending them to me.

    Pretoria
    City (26 photos) - We
arrived in Pretoria at the right time of the year, as the jacarandas which
the city is known for were in full bloom. It made for a gorgeous town.
Pretoria is so close to Johannesburg that they are almost a single city -
about the same distance between Toronto and Hamilton.

    Mpumalanga Province (28 photos) -
As we drove out of Pretoria, into what we imagined in some way were the
wilds of Africa, our first impression was that the landscape looked an awful
lot like southern Ontario. That changed, though, as the soil turned red, and
we drove through the dramatic Drakensberg escarpment. Lots of waterfalls and
    interesting natural formations.

Bob imbibing beer in a baobob (6 photos)
    - My friend Mary told me about a place in the countryside where a bar
actually existing inside of a living tree. The place was on a farm north of
Pretoria, and we were able to find it. Upon our arrival the owners opened it
up, and did in fact serve us beer, which we drank inside this tree. The
    experience was fascinating.
