    Reykjavik
	and Iceland Map

I went to Reykjavik in June 2017 with
my friend Jim. Like everyone else who has visited the city, we started by
planning to go elsewhere and were wooed by Iceland Air's low fares and the
ability to have a "free" stopover in the country. We were very fortunate
with the weather, which turned sunny (if not warm) for our visit after weeks
of drizzle. We spent a day very profitably in Reykjavik, exploring the
city's streets and visiting some museums and galleries, and then hopped a
rented car the next day and drove north across the country to Akureyri. We
had lovely sunny weather for our drive as well, and a great visit in our
	charming AirBnB there.

		Inner
		Reykjavik (107 photos)
      	- There is really no logical way to divide up my Reykjavik photos into
palatable bits, so I sort of divided the city into two bits, and this
gallery is the bit to the right, which includes most of the "official"
sites in the city. This includes their parliament, the city hall, the
big concert hall called the Harpa, and many of the commercial streets in
the centre of town. The main building of the Reykjavik Art Gallery
is presented here, as is the port area.

		Outer
		Reykjavik (107 photos)
		- The second more or less random selection of photos is the area
slightly to the west of the historical core. The starts with the huge
cathedral that dominates the skyline, the Hallgrimskirkja, it shows the
waterfront including some modern buildings there, two of the three
galleries that together comprise the Reykjavik Art Gallery, and the
Botanical Garden, and yes, the Penis Museum.

Driving Route 1 and other roads (88 photos)
		 - These photos are those outside
Reykjavik and Akureyri that show our drive in the Icelandic countryside. These are in
the order they were taken, and include the initial drive and the return
back, so for instance, the town of Borgarnes is represented twice. They
are mostly shots of mountains and the lovely and bleak, sparsely
		populated landscape.

		Akureyri (38 photos)
		 - We spent the night in a smaller
city on the north side of the island called Akureyri. These photos show
the townscape, including the world's most northern botanical garden.
