San Diego Map

Yvon and I went to San Diego in 2006. We stayed in Little Italy, which had really intriguing lowrise architecture. I couldn't believe how many attractive and really interesting building there were, especially in that area, and it made me quite envious. San Diego's highrises, on the other hand, are almost uniformly horrible, and seem to be getting worse as time rolls on. We had a car, so we were able to navigate the city's complex topography quite well, as you can see by the photoset below for outlying areas.

  • Central San Diego (68 photos) - Includes highrises, their waterfront including art and walkways, some transit shots of the trolley system, and great lowrise buildings in Little Italy.

  • Balboa Park (34 photos) - This park occupies a huge part of the central city of San Diego, and contains a large number of cultural buildings. It was the site of the 1915 Panama - California Exposition and the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition. These photos are of gardens, buildings, and other attractions in the park.

  • Outlying Areas of San Diego (48 photos) - San Diego is quite a complex city geographically, and this photoset includes photos from La Jolla, a northern suburb, Cabrillo and the military cemetery there, Coronado, a beach resort, and Old Town, the city core at a great remove from the current downtown where San Diego got its start.

  • University of California at San Diego (19 photos) - Most of these are of the famous Salk Institute, a Very Important Building and surely a UNESCO - something or other. Other photos are of the campus.
