Sherbrooke Map

I have visited Sherbrooke twice. Once with Yvon in 2008 on the way back from a trip to New Brunswick, and then again in 2019 as a kind of side trip on a visit to Ottawa, where Jim and I spent a sunny day exploring the city. Sherbrooke is an attractive small city, with the beautiful Magog river cascading through the downtown core. The central city appears not to have changed much for quite a while, and newer buildings appear mostly on the fringes of the city. Jim and I had a lovely visit, including a healthy lunch and charming dinner, in the late spring warmth.

  • Central Sherbrooke (85 photos) - This gallery covers the central city of Sherbrooke, with a focus on the built environment. It starts at the City Hall, covers buildings along Wellington (including two restaurants where Jim and I ate, and the bar we visited at night) and then sort of wanders downtown in a circular pattern, moving up to King Street and then the Cathedral, then across the river to a few buildings north of the Magog, and ends In the west end of downtown, near the Lac des Nations.

  • Rivers, Lakes and Parks in Sherbrooke (43 photos) - This gallery also includes photos of central Sherbrooke, but from the point of view of water. Central Sherbrooke is largely cut off from the Saint-François River, but if you cross bridges from downtown there you can approach the river's edge, with a bit of a view of the town. The Magog River rushes through central Sherbrooke in a gorge with a series of dramatic falls, and there are walkways all along here. The Lac des Nations on the western edge of downtown feeds the Magog. This gallery also includes photos from my walk in the Parc du Mont-Bellevue.

  • September 2008 Visit to Sherbrooke (15 photos) - Yvon and I dropped by Sherbrooke on a drive home from New Brunswick. We spent the night there, and in the morning our intent was to visit the city a little before driving the rest of the way to Toronto. We had trouble getting the Jeep going, however, it needed a boost and we were unwilling to turn it off again, and so I got a few grey photos of the city without really getting a good sense of it, while Yvon sat waiting in the running truck. Interesting for me, that although there are only 15 photos in this group, that they actually capture some of the city's highlights fairly well.
