Sudbury Map
I visited Sudbury in childhood: I was there from July 15 to 17, 1976, when I was 13. I was
touring with my Uncle Rudy and Aunt Jean, and we stayed at Rudy's parents in
our camper. I reported that we visited the Big Nickel, went on a tour of a
mine, took a toy train ride, and had a tour of a smelter, and I wrote
that "we saw the fiery red slag in these big tub sort of things ... they
were noisy but neat". We watched the opening on the Olympics on TV and
looked for Rudy's lost wallet. And then I wasn't back for any purpose at all
until July 2016, forty years later, when I flew to the city for a photo gathering
session on a sweltery summer day. All photos below are from this one
visit.

Central
Sudbury (69 photos)
- Though Sudbury fronts onto Ramsey Lake, the downtown is situated at a
remove from the lake, so is bound by railways and cliffs rather than by
water. I visited on a hot summer Sunday, so most businesses were closed
and it had a very quiet feeling to it. This gallery starts at the fairly
unpleasant Tom Davies Square which houses the City Hall, and does a wide
circle around the downtown, ending at the railway station.

Sudbury Photos (66 photos)
- This is everything that is not downtown. It starts with the Grotto of
the Lady of Lourdes and moves on to St-Jean-de-Brebeuf Church, then some
stuff along Lorne Street, the Big Nickel, the Art Gallery of Sudbury,
Bell Park along Ramsey Lake, Science North, Laurentian University, the
Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, and the airport. Did I miss anything?
